Members of a Larger Group: The Campus Community

The UAAS has helped to give African-American students a sense of community within the context of the larger campus community. While the UAAS and its activities were and are open to all students, one of the primary effects of the UAAS is that it has helped to provide African-American students with a sense of their own identity. At the same time, the College's African-American students, including those who chose and choose not to be members of UAAS, have been visible and active participants in the larger campus community.
